Overview
A continued discussion with Dr. Stanford from the Part 1 Oral Implants course. The role of oral implants in tooth replacement therapy provides significant improvements in oral function, speech and quality of life. The intervention though does have risks including surgical, prosthetic and patient outcome risks that need to be anticipated in the diagnostic and care planning phase of care. Diagnostics needs to comprehensively consider patient, anatomic and physiologic/biological factors and these issues need to be clearly presented in a conversation around informed consent.
Objectives:
- Understand the issues around communication of risk.
- Understand the most common aspects of surgical and prosthetic procedures where anatomic, physiologic and patient communications are key.
- Understand the role of diagnostic steps in patient assessment before, during and following tooth replacement therapies.
Presenters:
Clark M. Stanford DDS, Ph.D. UIC Distinguished Professor and Dean, College of Dentistry, University of Illinois at Chicago
Ronald R. Zentz, RPh, DDS, FAGD, CPHRM, Dental Risk Control Consulting Director, CNA Healthcare
