New source for information on medical emergencies

  Download/Print Risk Alert (PDF)

The American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ASDA) Anesthesia Research Foundation has just released a new educational program to help guide dental providers in a medical emergency situation. The initiative is titled Ten Minutes Saves a Life®, and the goal of the program is to “optimize patient safety and outcomes in office medical emergencies”.

The program supports team training in the use of emergency drugs and equipment during the critical ten-minute interval between recognition of a patient’s medical emergency and arrival of EMS (emergency medical service) personnel.

This program should be used for the training of all staff in the use of the suggested emergency drugs/equipment and have them immediately available.

The program is available via the ASDA website, and a free application for mobile devices at the Apple App Store and Google Play.

New resources for protection from ransomware and phishing scams

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recently published new information and resources to assist small business owners, including dental offices, in protecting themselves from ransomware and phishing attacks. The information explains how these attacks happen, methods to help prevent such attacks, and steps to take if a computer or network is affected.

It is important for all dental practices that have digital patient records to take all measures possible to protect this information in order to be in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
