Dentist's Advantage Announces New "Practice Based Pricing"
Sometimes even conventional wisdom must be questioned. Take for
instance how dentist's malpractice insurance is priced. While convention has
held that the use of anesthesia* is the biggest driver for malpractice
lawsuits... we find this is no longer the case. The use of anesthesia is a
part of the claims picture; our analysis proves that other procedures are
the primary drivers of lawsuits today. Dentist's Advantage, a provider of
malpractice insurance to dentists, examined over 10 years of loss data to clearly assess what
drives dental malpractice claims. The results will change how the Dentist's
Advantage program approaches malpractice coverage, how they assess
procedures offered and the pricing of dental risks.
Although over 85% of General Practitioners limit their practice to
local anesthetics, and anesthesia related claims represent only 1.2%*of all
dentistry malpractice claims, and only 5.86%* of the median claims payments.
A recent report on dental malpractice claims published by the ADA states
that 61.1%** of all dental malpractice claims result from procedures
involving extractions, crown and bridge, and root canal treatments.
Practice Based Pricing
In response to this, Dentist's Advantage developed "Practice Based
Pricing", a unique, pricing plan matching a dentist's day-to-day practice to
their malpractice insurance premium. "Dentist Advantage has taken the lead
in offering an objective approach to malpractice pricing. The criteria used
to determine premiums are logical and are based on intensive claims
analysis, and with the input and support of the AGD, a thorough
understanding of today's dental practice."
"It is refreshing to have an insurance company seek out the opinions
of working dentists to help them understand the treatment provided in our
offices and to develop a plan which addresses the complexities and breadth
of modern dental care."- Richard M. Kanter, DMD, FAGD, Chair, Council on
Group Benefit Programs, Academy of General Dentistry.
Dentist's Advantage recognizes that every dental practice is unique,
and a "one size fits all" rating plan is outdated and no longer relevant for
today's dentist. Make sure your malpractice insurance is reflective of your
practice. For more information, contact Dentist's Advantage at 1-888-778-3981
